retail hell

I’ve recently obtained my first job in the retail field.  To be honest, i actually enjoy it.  It’s a lot different than the “work” i’m used to.  When you are used to wiping noses, counting change to customers is a nice change of scenery.  However, it does have it’s moments when i wonder what the hell i was thinking when i accepted the job.  I never realized how many people are just BITTER.  I must say…there are a good amount of nice customers that make up for the bitter ones though.  However, my LEAST favorite customer is the customer that stands in line for 5-10 minutes, only to decide what she is going to purchase and what she doesn’t want once she is at the register.  Yesterday I had a woman at my register that ended up spending almost 300 dollars.  She had a cart full of lovely home goods.  However, she felt the need to re-decide if she actually wanted to buy each item before she placed it on the counter.  Also, to make things better (worse, actually) she changed her mind on individual items multiple times.  She probably spent at least 10 minutes deciding, and as she’s changing her mind, and changing her mind again my line is growing at a rapid rate.  By this time I just wanted to get rid of her.  She walked away to go get a different bird house and I wrapped up all the glass items she had on the counter and bagged up all her stuff.  By the time she got back she seemed upset that I had wrapped all her stuff.  She said ‘I wish i knew what you had wrapped up’.  I said “all the ornaments you put on the counter”.  She gave me a look.  It was awkward.  the customer AIN’T always right beeeeyotch! what what.  I wont be surprised if i see her in the next couple of weeks returning everything.  She just seemed like that type of customer.  Difficult all around.

first blog post yay! early new years resolution: keep it up.
